When TV4 started broadcasting in 1990 our aim was to challenge the public service monopoly with an innovative, modern commercial TV channel. We succeeded. Today, TV4 Group attracts more than 30 per cent of Swedish TV viewing.

In 1984, the idea was hatched of challenging the public service broadcasters in Sweden with a quality commercial channel. This was realised in 1990 with the premiere of TV4.

TV4’s popularity soared, as one hit show followed another. By the end of the 1990s, TV4 was Sweden’s largest TV channel.

Back then, the company was made up of a single TV channel, a number of local TV stations, tele-text and the first online project, tv4.se. Though plans for an offshoot channel to TV4 were beginning to take shape.

In 2003, we launched TV4 Plus (today Sjuan), marking the kick-off for the multi-channel strategy that ever since has been the unique characteristic of the TV4 Group – and that continues to bring success on the Swedish and Nordic TV markets.

The TV4 Group is now Sweden’s largest TV provider and one of the leading TV companies in the Nordic region. Thanks to the successful multi-channel strategy, the Group continues to grow in terms of reach, viewing figures and market share.

Today, after 25 years, the TV4 Group's success is indisputable. TV4 Group has delivered successful programming, which has won more than 30 per cent of the viewing public and a leading position online.
