24 January sees the start of TV4 News - Sweden's only round-the-clock news channel. TV4 News offers Swedish TV viewers a comprehensive news service with global, national and local coverage of news, sport, weather, business and entertainment. In addition, a unique agreement with BBC World News provides viewers with broader international outlook and analysis. Through agreements with distributors Canal Digital and Com Hem, TV4 News will be available to half of all Swedish households.
TV4 News gives up-to-the-minute coverage of events in Sweden and abroad - 24 hours a day, all year round. More detailed news bulletins will be broadcast on the hour, with brief updates every 15 minutes. The programmes are presented by well-known TV4 and Nyhetsbolaget broadcasters. In-depth analysis and commentary of news and event around the world is provided in the studio by the news team and guests. Business news, entertainment news and sports news are presented in turn, interspersed with weather updates.
"TV4 News cements our position as the most important and most-watched TV news service in the country. Our national news coverage, our presence in 25 local centres and our new agreement with BBC World News - one of the world's foremost news providers - gives us an edge, breadth and depth in the service we offer to TV viewers: up-to-the-minute news as well as in-depth analysis of domestic and foreign events," explains Göran Ellung, head of the new channel.
TV4 News broadcasts direct from the heart of things - all major news events are covered, from important press conferences and international summits to political congresses, movie galas and other current events. TV4 News also has its own studio in parliament, from which it broadcasts interviews, debates and comment.
An agreement with BBC World News offers TV4 News viewers additional perspectives on international news, outlook and analysis in the form of twice-daily news broadcasts. A further feature is that TV4 will have access to some additions of HARDtalk, a current affairs and interview programme, presented each week by Stephen Sackur. An average of eight hours a week of BBC programmes will be broadcast on TV4 News.
"BBC World News has unique expertise in high quality, international journalism which will serve as a perfect complement to the TV4 News offering. This agreement mirrors successful arrangements we have with an increasing number of broadcasters around the world and will offer viewers in Sweden the impartial global perspective they crave and the opportunity to engage with BBC World News content via a new platform," says Colin Lawrence, Commercial Director of BBC World News.
Other TV4 News programmes include Rosenberg, a current affairs programme, in which presenter Göran Rosenberg and his guests delve into the hottest domestic and foreign news topics every Thursday, and Nöjet, a new entertainment programme. Several times a day Nöjet presents the latest national and international news from the world of popular entertainment, with an hour-long weekend magazine show summarising the week in entertainment. Other TV4 News programmes include CBS 60 Minutes, Kalla fakta and Kvällsöppet.
