Swedish drama further strengthened at TV4 Group

TV4 Group’s focus on Swedish drama is being strengthened. At the beginning of next year, Johanna Bergenstråhle starts as the new Executive Producer of drama and comedy.

Johanna Bergenstråhle joins us from Jarowskij, where she produced the Swedish-American sitcom Welcome to Sweden for TV4/eOne/NBC. She has previously produced numerous feature films and television series, and most recently the feature film trilogy JerryMaya’s Detective Agency for Svensk Filmindustri (SF), with the final film Stella Nostra currently being a success on cinema screens. At SF, she was also Deputy Head of Production and jointly produced Shed No Tears.

“TV4 has demonstrated for some time that the channel is serious about its stated ambitions within drama, and has challenged, broadened and advanced its positions in Swedish-produced drama through strong and courageous initiatives. I am enormously honoured, excited and pleased to have the opportunity to continue driving this development together with TV4’s drama department, and it is with confidence and great expectations that I step into my new job,” says Johanna Bergenstråhle.

This recruitment is in line with the expanded focus of TV4 Group and C More on high-quality Swedish drama, a focus that in 2015 has brought record numbers of premieres of Swedish drama productions. Successful new series such as Modus, Small Town Love (Ack Värmland) and Boy Machine are just some of the drama productions that have reached millions of viewers. Along with the new seasons of shows such as Beck and Solsidan, they have also greatly contributed to the major viewer success experienced by TV4 during the autumn, with an entirely Swedish primetime schedule. The focus on Swedish drama and comedy is now continuing at both TV4 and C More, and next year it will be possible to see shows such as David Hellenius’s new comedy My Perfect Family (Finaste familjen) on TV4, and new Beck films on C More, and a number of other drama projects will become official during 2016.

“There is a lot happening in our industry right now. The feature film is going through a tough time, while TV drama is flourishing and competition is becoming more intense. This places even greater demands on the producers and on us as a channel. We have to work even better together, to best understand our own needs and the needs of our viewers. This is why Johanna Bergenstråhle’s unique experience as a producer and assistant production manager at SF is invaluable. I am so pleased that Johanna is joining us. We now have the best possible drama team, and the future is very exciting,” says TV4 Group’s Head of Drama Josefine Tengblad.

Johanna Bergenstråhle starts on January 11.
